Extension of the Adobe Flash Player / Adobe AIR with C and C + + via ActionScript 3

April 09, 2008 by Julien Lestel

At the MAX 2007 Adobe has shown an internal project called "C / C + + to ActionScript Compiler" so far and Kevin Lynch mentioned the project at Engage 2008. This project is a cross-compiler for ActionScript allows any C code or C + + to run on the Adobe Flash Player or Adobe AIR. This project has some subtleties to extend the platform Adobe in terms of coding. The key is that many languages are built from C / C + +:

Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, Lua, Perl, C # (Mono), JavaScript, and many others ...

Part of its implementation based on a pattern which allows ActionScript "green threading": it allows to execute code synchronously in the ActionScript virtual machine asyncrhone. The work done during this project will open new perspectives ...

Like many companies, Adobe has many C / C + + for filters used PhotoShop, PDF rendering, to read and écriretous file formats existing libraries of fonts, very complex vector renderers, and more ... With Adobe it are many open source libraries that could serve as a component. The biggest attraction for me is that there is no need to port these libraries, they work like the original. For example, the behavior of Python in Flash Player is identical with C-Python compared to the behavior of a scope as the projects IronPython and Jython. The aim is to bring the concepts of inheritance, libraries external code in the Flash Player and Adobe AIR.

Interactive 3D video

March 25 2008 by Julien Lestel

The team of Immersive Media uses the Adobe Flash Player and ActionScript 3 to make videos interactive 3D. This is the first time I see an interactive video display in this format. You can rotate the camera in all directions.

To test:

1. Click the Play button.
2. Browse the video.

The result is not impressive!

Flash on the iPhone soon - with Flex?

February 21 2008 by Julien Lestel

flex iphone According to this blog, Flash will be supported by the iPhone. It remains to be seen what version of Flash will be supported on the phone (FlashLite or full Flash Player), but keep in mind that the iPhone uses a simplified version of Mac OS X.

For me, it means that the player will be Flash Player 9, which would allow Adobe Flex applications to be usable on the iPhone ... I'm sure the iPhone and Flex may well agree!

News on the Adobe Labs: Flex 3 beta 3, blazed, etc ...

December 14 2007 by Julien Lestel

Going to visit the Adobe labs, I realized that Father Christmas has already passed at Adobe:

  • Flex 3 beta 3 (last version before the final version)
  • AIR Beta 3
  • Dreamweaver extensions for AIR beta 3!
  • Blazed (kesako!)

What blazed? You know LiveCycle Data Services, the solution proposed by the server to communicate with Adobe LiveCycle, map its objects (remoting), to push the data, etc ... LiveCycle DataServices was paying before, but now that blazed appeared, the situation has changed! A branch of the project (including remoting and data push) is free and open source! A time when the real time is a real bonus (demo impressive), this announcement is a real breakthrough for all Flex developers . Beyond free solution, Adobe continues its policy of offering its development tools as open source. After Flex 3 is now a new brick oriented server, which is changing statut.Il s is therefore great news that gives us new horizons and opportunities available :)

Tracking the navigation and action in Flex with Google Analytics

December 11 2007 by Julien Lestel

The analysis of the navigation of users and their actions on a website is often essential to improve service. Most Web sites use this. If you're not using it, Google provided a service called Google Analytics (GA), which allows visitors to follow it very easily. You can learn more and to create an account here: http://www.google.com/analytics/

The colors of an image in Flex & Google Analytics flex

I contruis Flex applications and analysis of the navigation is just as important to a Flex application. However, Google Analytics is made to run on traditional HTML sites, with lots of terms like barbarians "body onLoad" and others. Therefore, operate Analytics with a Flex application was not possible at first sight, I will show you the steps to take if you want to use Google Analytics in Flex.
