Doom in AS3

November 27 2008 by Julien Lestel

This is a port of the game in C, C + + to our favorite platform, the Flash Player. I had already talked to a port of Quake 1 to AS3. It is therefore of Doom which is now playable through flash with Alchemy, a toolkit to compile C or C + + for use in the Flash Player. The whole is quite complex and is explained here.

The game is available via this link (warning, he planted once and IE does not work on Mac ...) and has a very good FPS (frame per second this time). Such manipulation could allow new opportunities for the Flash player ...

Convos: Groups Online

09 September 2008 by Julien Lestel

Convos is a recent Flex application that allows you to easily manage your subscriptions and groups. As Google Groups, convos allows users to create online groups with their email address. Once logged in, users can easily see messages, make lists, create events in a calendar, manage photos, and more for each group to which it subscribes.

Note that this application is still under development. For the technical side, they use Java at the server level, and work with Amazon's EC 2 (they also use the storage system for Amazon S3).

Convos is a good application, I think that if he lay down some bugs and a minimum if they improve the user interface and can become a flagship application Web. To keep your bookmarks therefore :)

May 23 2008 by Julien Lestel

NJ, who works at Adobe, has created a new AIR application to read RSS feeds: Snackr. Snackr is not a simple RSS reader - it is an "RSS Ticker", it takes all items in the RSS feeds of the site that you visit and displays on the side or bottom of the screen.

snackr_com.tiff

It's quite distracting when running all the time! but really very practical to see the new articles that interest you. And read the blog is very fast.

The application is done with Flex 3 and running with Adobe AIR.

Tutorial: How to make Tetris in Flex?

March 10 2008 by Julien Lestel

tetris adobe flex

RicoOnFlex developed a clone of Tetris in AS3. It is a complete set with 600 lines of code AS3. It mainly uses 2 dimensional arrays to represent the masks for the bricks and to enable a simplified collision detection. The record is simply a bitmap data filled with "shape object."

One could add a little sound, beautiful graphics and a high score submission, and it could become a really nice online Thursday.

The game is called TINT for Tint Is Not Tetris.
